TEACHER AND EDUCATION
EDUCATION
In the broad sense, “any act or experience
that has a formative effect on the mind, character and physical ability can be
called education”. The chief task of education is to shape man, or to guide the
evolving dynamism through which man forms himself as a man. The task of
education is to lead people out of darkness into light. Education means the
process of acquiring experiences to develop one’s innate abilities and talents
needed for a productive and successful personal and social life.
MEANING OF EDUCATION
The term “education” is derived from the Latin
word ' educare’ and it means “to bring up” , “ to nourish” or “ to raise” . According
to Swami Vivekananda, “education is the manifestation of divine perfection
already existing in man”. According to Gandhiji, “By education, I mean an all-round
drawing out of the best in child and man, body mind and spirit”. According to
Rabindranath Tagore, “Education consists in enabling the mind to find out
ultimate truth which emancipates us from the bondage of lust, and gives the
wealth not of things but of inner light, not of power but of love, making this
truth its own, and giving expression to it.”
